Dr. Luanne Eris Fose Revised July 30, 2004
ICONS RESIDING IN THE COMMON MENU:
Hyperlink Link: Insert hypertext links at the insertion point, or immediately following the
current selection.
Email Link: Inserts an email link. This tool is especially useful to have someone contacted
on your web page.
Named Anchor: This tool places a named anchor at the insertion point. Anchors are great
for navigational purposes since it lets you link (jump) to a specific point on a page instead
of requiring that someone scroll down to get there.
Table: This tool places a table at the insertion point and brings up a dialog box asking you
for specific details.
Image: This icon is different than in Dreamweaver MX since it has an arrow with a submenu
attached to it. Within the submenu you can select from the following:
Image: Inserts an image at the insertion point. A dialog box appears so that you can
select an image file.
Image Placeholder: Inserts an image placeholder at the insertion point. This is great
for when you don’t have the image ready yet but want to reserve a place for it in your
layout. A dialog box allows you to specify a name and dimensions for the placeholder
where you can later place your image.
Rollover Image: This choice prompts you to specify two image files (an “on” and an
“off” image) that are used to define a rollover. A rollover is an image that changes when
the mouse moves across it.
Fireworks HTML: This choice places an HTML file produced by Fireworks at the
insertion point.
Navigation Bar: Inserts a set of images to be used for navigating through a web site.
The Navigation Bar usually consists of four images for each button that represent a
different user action of the button such as Up, Over, Down, and Over While Down.
Media: This option contains buttons for inserting animated or interactive media objects
such as Flash, Flash Buttons, Flash Text, Java applets, Parameters, ActiveX objects, and
Plugins (e.g., QuickTime movies).
Date: This option places the current date at the insertion point. A dialog box appears in
which you can specify a format for the date and indicate whether Dreamweaver should
update the date automatically every time you save the file making it dynamic.
